The gecko engine that firefox uses is antiquated and handles javascript quite poorly compared to other browsers (i.e. Chrome/Safari), and Javascript speed is a necessity in the age of web apps. Its cross-platform compatibility is also quite weak, as it is clearly a windows-centered browser and performs quite poorly on mac and not much better on linux systems.

Also, firefox only scores a 94 on the acid 3 standards compliance test, while chrome and safari score 100. It even completes the test slower. (In all fairness, I must mention that ie scores a pitiful 12 on this test)

I do not understand all the hype, just because firefox happens to be better than ie is not really saying that much, and many other browsers are better than firefox.
