David Ascher
CEO
David has overall responsibility for the company’s operations and strategic direction, but spends much of his time in product design and community building activities as well. David was most recently at ActiveState, where he led the development of a Mozilla-based IDE, and then was CTO/VP Engineering. David combines a business outlook, strong engineering background, and open source expertise. David has a B.Sc. and a Ph.D from Brown University.
Chris Beard
Chief Innovation Officer, Mozilla
Chris strives to harness the collective intelligence of the Mozilla community to drive innovation in products and technologies for the open Web. He joined Mozilla in 2004 and previously served as VP of Products for three years, leading marketing and product management efforts to grow the Firefox user base to more than 120 million users worldwide. Before Mozilla, he provided open source strategy consulting for Hewlett-Packard and served as General Manager of Emerging Services at Linuxcare following its acquisition of The Puffin Group, an open source startup he co-founded and led as CEO. Chris studied biochemistry at the University of Ottawa and holds an M.B.A. in international business from the University of Edinburgh.
Mårten Mickos
former MySQL CEO
Mårten Mickos has been a friend of the Mozilla project for a long time. As CEO of MySQL from 2001 to 2008, he led that company into one of the success-stories of open source businesses, notably with MySQL's acquisition by Sun Microsystems in 2008. Prior to MySQL, Mickos held multi-national CEO and senior executive positions in his native Finland. He holds a M.Sc. in technical physics from Helsinki University of Technology. A Thunderbird user since 2004, he receives some 70,000 emails each year, and sends about half that many. He’s also a frequent user of IRC, instant messenger, Skype, and social networking sites.
